An industrial-grade powerhouse in a stunningly compact form.
Explore our range of Matica LX ID card printers and consumables, engineered for high-security, decentralised card issuance. The LX Printer delivers the power of industrial laser personalisation in a compact, desktop-sized design—ideal for national ID programs, driver’s licences, and secure government-issued credentials.
With advanced GEN 3 LX fibre laser technology, the LX system enables high-resolution (1200 dpi) engraving of polycarbonate cards at speeds up to 150 cards per hour. Its dual-module design supports dual-side laser marking, CLI/MLI, vector laser text, and secure elements like micro-text and tilted imagery. Whether you're issuing cards on-site or as part of a wider issuance scheme, the LX series is designed to meet your security, speed, and flexibility needs.
How the Laser Personalisation Process Works
Matica LX printers use a Master Oscillator Power Amplifier (MOPA) fibre laser to engrave data and images directly into the card substrate. This process ensures tamper-resistant personalisation and exceptional durability. Unlike dye-sublimation methods that deposit ink on the surface, laser engraving etches the design into polycarbonate, PET or similar high-grade materials—creating fraud-resistant cards with longevity.
Retransfer Printing Integration
The LX Printer can be paired with Matica's XID-M retransfer printers for dual-modality personalisation. In this setup, colour data is printed via dye-sublimation onto a retransfer film, then heat-transferred to the card surface. Simultaneously, laser engraving is used for secure black text or greyscale imagery beneath the surface. This hybrid process is especially powerful when enhanced by Matica Secure Protected Image (MSPI®) technology—where part of the colour image is extracted and engraved as a secondary security layer.
Why You Need Both Ribbon & Film
In retransfer printing:
-
The colour ribbon (usually YMCK) applies the image to the retransfer film.
-
The retransfer film then transfers that image onto the card, ensuring edge-to-edge coverage even on uneven surfaces (e.g., smart cards).
This two-step process is essential for high-quality, durable ID cards with full-bleed visuals.
