To ensure the smooth running of an event on such a large scale requires effective crowd management and zone restrictions. The event organisers at Essener Winter Traum were therefore looking for a solution that was not only reliable and robust, but attractive with built in access control readers to manage those with tickets on and off the ice.
Cards-x were chosen by the organisers of Essen City Centres Winter Event to help manage the footfall on their two story ice rink. The cards-x CX T6 turnstile is already used in ski resorts across the world and was an ideal turnstile for outdoor use.
Cards-x developed the CX T6 turnstile as part of a complete access control system for stationary or mobile operation. The T6 consists essentially of a motor-operated drive unit with locking arms, and a head unit with readers for different media. The head unit and drive unit are connected by a light ring, which displays different colours to demonstrate the state of the turnstile.
Norman Kämmerling, cards-x CEO comments, "We were proud to be chosen by the organisers to help manage visitors on and off the ice. With extensive experience in visitor management at winter sporting events we were confident the CX turnstile was a perfect solution for them. With built in readers the turnstiles required little management from the staff at the event and guests could get on and off the ice easily with a valid ticket."
The cards-x group is a specialist European distributor of Access Control Solutions, including ID card printers and related consumables, turnstiles and readers. cards-x is also a manufacturer of rigid ID cardholders. Established for more than 12 years, cards-x has the experience and knowledge to supply and support all partners.

]]>From 29.1.2023 to 5.2.2023, the CGM Arena in Koblenz was once again transformed into a top-class tennis arena.
The organiser of the Koblenz OPEN, Inside Out UG, commissioned accreditation specialists, cards-x, to supply the online accreditation software "CARDS-X-CCESS" as well as large-format badges and ID card printers for this event.
The complete accreditation management solution from cards-x featured the CX ECP-XL event card printer which enabled the event to use pre-printed cards in the special format of 124 x 87.80 mm. "We were convinced by the advantages of the large-format card and the fast output on site," says Lars Zimmermann, Tournament Director Koblenz Open. "The large ID card offers a much easier visual check for our security staff. At the same time, the card has much more space for additional information, such as directions to the event site or placement of sponsors and advertising." Accreditations for VIPs, players, staff and media representatives were recorded and issued before and during the tournament.
The online accreditation software solution "CARDS-X-CCESS" was used for the recording, administration and creation of the badges. This accreditation software is a cloud solution and can be used independently of the operating system and terminal device.
For the first time, the badges for this tournament were pre-printed with cards-x’s special INKJET printer. This allowed cards-x to pre-print ID badges off-site at a considerably reduced cost and save the tournament both time and money!!! "We are convinced that this technology will become established for smaller events" says Norman Kämmerling, Managing Director of cards-x GmbH. "With the INKJET technology you are very flexible and can react quickly to the customer's wishes".
cards-x supplies various accreditation systems that can be individually configured to customer requirements for the convenient management, printing and encoding of plastic ID cards and ID badges. It does not matter whether the cards are in cheque format or large format - both can of course also be combined with contactless RFID technology.
]]>cards-x, which has bases in the UK and Germany, has acquired Adon Development, which is based in Ratingen near Düsseldorf and is one of the world’s most prominent suppliers of turnstiles, barriers, gates and electronic door systems.
Its access control systems operate alongside an advanced online, browser-based event registration system that is fully customisable in terms of look and feel, enabling it to incorporate event branding and other features relevant to any event.
It can also be tailored for individuals attending the event, offering everything from access to special zones through to food and drink credit in hospitality areas. The company’s products are available to lease or rent, serving clients including the Ski World Cup Croatia, as well as global motor racing events.
Adon Development’s founder, Peter Mooshage, and its six-strong team will all remain with the business, which is being rebranded to cards-x Development.
With offices in York and Düsseldorf, cards-x has quickly become one of Europe’s leading suppliers of security products, ID cards, and Matica printers. In the last 12 months cards-x’s team has grown from six people to a team of eight at Malton near York with a further 20 people in Germany, following this latest acquisition.
cards-x chief operating officer, Andy Reeves, stated: “cards-x is now at the forefront of the market in terms of security ID cards and the print equipment used to create them, and this latest acquisition is a key part of our ambition to become much more than a distributor and manufacturer.”
Norman Kämmerling, CEO at cards-x, added: “Adon Development is a world leader in access control systems with an innovative product range that is supported by an advanced online system that can provide an array of bespoke services to ensure sports fans, music lovers, exhibition attendees, and anyone else visiting an event, have an outstanding experience.
“It’s very exciting to be able to incorporate these products and services into our offering and the acquisition will enable us to continue growing our client base throughout Europe and beyond.”
This latest deal follows cards-x acquiring the world’s most eco-friendly manufacturer of ID card holders, Evohold at the end of 2020. Following the acquisition, ‘Made in Britain’ member, Evohold, relocated from Preston to Malton and the company now produces hundreds of thousands of card holders each week, which are exported to countries throughout the world.

]]>cards-x is one of Europe’s leading suppliers of security products, ID cards, and the specialist print equipment used to create them. The German based company expanded into the UK last autumn, opening a new base at Malton near York.
In December, cards-x then acquired Evohold, which manufactures ID card holders, and the company now produces hundreds of thousands of card holders each week, which are exported to countries throughout the world.
To meet this rising demand, cards-x has appointed Craig Kail to oversee the manufacturing process and Charlotte Hoggard has joined the customer services team, managing the distribution of completed products. Further investments, in both staff and machinery, are planned in the coming months as the company continues to expand its product range.
Its latest product to hit the market is the world’s first fully biodegradable ID card holder. It uses innovative technology to significantly increase the biodegradation rate of polymers in anaerobic microbe rich environments such as landfill and oceans. The product complements Evohold’s existing range which includes recyclable, compostable and antimicrobial products, as well as detectable products that include metal particles.
The UK division of cards-x, which is a ‘Made In Britain’ member, is headed up by managing director, Andy Reeves. He said: “Since expanding into the UK and then acquiring Evohold late last year, we’ve enjoyed a very busy six months with high demand across our product range and particularly for our card holders. As the only manufacturer of these products in the UK, we’re now on target to surpass 12 million units a year.
“The appointment of Charlotte and Craig, combined with further investment in new machinery, will support this growth. Craig brings a wealth of experience in the plastics industry to the role and Charlotte has spent more than five years working in customer services and has immediately hit the ground running.”
Andy continued: “Our new biodegradable card holder is proving very popular and particularly with businesses and organisations that are keen to demonstrate their green credentials. Our innovative technology means it biodegrades approximately five times quicker than conventional plastic.
“This launch also coincides with many countries banning the use of oxo-degradable plastics. Until recently these were marketed as a solution to plastic waste, but it was discovered they actually fragment into smaller pieces, known as microplastics, but don’t break down at a molecular or polymer level like biodegradable plastics, making them a major contributor to plastic pollution.
“This makes it a really exciting time to be adding this pioneering product to our range of recyclable, compostable, antimicrobial and detectable card holders, as well as flying the flag for eco-friendly British manufacturing.”

The acquisition was completed last Tuesday (1 December) and will see Evohold’s machinery and manufacturing centre relocated to cards-x’s 186sqm distribution and manufacturing facility in Malton near York. The company’s branding will be retained.
Founded in 2016 by Max Fretwell, Evohold was run by Fretwell, and other family members who between them produced more than 10 million badge holders per annum. The family have now gone to pursue another business venture.
The company's products are exported globally. Its most popular product is 100% recyclable and it also produces an antimicrobial and compostable version of the badge holders.
cards-x have been supplying for almost 10 years now, a wide range of plastic card printers and related consumables that enable businesses and organisations to produce their own personalised ID cards. Its card production plant in Germany also prints plastic cards in ISO credit card format, as well as other special card formats, for all types of uses.
The company’s UK division is headed up by managing director Andy Reeves, who called the acquisition “a perfect fit that gives us another range of first-class products that we can offer customers”.
He added: “As with most sectors, the green agenda is shaping the future of our industry and, crucially, Evohold is at the forefront of this. All its products are manufactured in the UK and use recycled plastic or materials that are compostable in just four weeks."
“In addition, the antimicrobial products, that stop the cross contamination of germs, are proving particularly popular in the Covid-19 pandemic, in all types of environments from schools to hospitals, which makes this a key growth area.”
Fretwell said: “Over the last four years we’ve built a successful business on the foundations of being a UK manufacturer with solid eco-credentials. Andy immediately understood the importance of maintaining this ethos and I’m looking forward to seeing the products continue to flourish as part of Cards-x.”
cards-x plans to create 10 new jobs over the coming year.
The UK facility, which was opened on 1 October, was set up partly due to the pandemic, which the business said had accelerated the migration to cashless payments in sectors including catering.
]]>This new consumable ribbon is available as part of the chromXpert Genuine Matica consumable program launched, and is exclusively available only for the MC series of Matica's desktop products.
The security ribbon is a consumable which gives you built in security features on your ID cards, for no additional outlay of hardware costs. You simply swap the YMCK for the YMCKSc ribbon, and you are able to produce built in security features.
An additional special panel of reflective variable ink is printed onto the card body, which significantly enhances the card’s security, while also reducing the effort and time it usually takes to verify its authenticity. This is down to its self-sufficiency since external devices such as magnifying glasses or UV lamps are no longer required. You will be able to visually see the security print using the naked eye.
The security consumable allows you to print both variable and static text, logos and images. The below image shows you a good example of what can be achieved. The security consumable has two built in security features.
The security ribbon has been introduced as a cost effective way of adding additional security features to your ID cards, should you not be able to afford alternatives such as card laminators and lamination films. If you decide further down the line that you would prefer a more in depth security method on your cards, you can simply switch and upgrade.
The security ribbon only offers you level-1 security, but for some this is more than they are currently offering their customers.
It gives you and your customers more security options to choose from, dependent on the budget available from the end customer.
The security ribbon is available on on the following ID card printers.

]]>One of Europe’s leading suppliers of security products, ID cards, and specialist ID printing equipment has expanded into the UK and opened a new office near York, that will create 10 new jobs over the coming year.
cards-x was founded near Dusseldorf, Germany, more than 10 years ago and its products are now used in a vast range of businesses, public sector organisations, sporting venues, exhibitions, public buildings, education establishments, visitor attractions and events. cards-x is renowned for its innovative digital access solutions, as well as providing fully managed accreditation services and guest management solutions at venues and events throughout the world.
The company sells an extensive range of plastic card printers and related consumables that enable businesses and organisations to produce their own personalised ID cards quickly and easily. It’s card production plant in Germany specialises in printing plastic cards in ISO credit card format, as well as other special card formats, for all types of uses including accreditation passes for large sporting events.
The UK division of cards-x is headed up by Managing Director, Andy Reeves, who joins the company from global technology giant, Matica, which manufactures the desktop identification hardware used to produce highly secure documents such as passports, financial cards, national ID cards and driving licences. As part of the expansion, cards-x has opened an office and distribution centre on Showfield Lane in Malton.
Andy Reeves said: “cards-x has an unrivalled track record in the market and there is a clear gap in the UK for a company that can quicky and efficiently provide a vast range of products, as well as an expert accreditation service.
“The expansion of cards-x also comes at a defining point for the industry, with the Covid-19 pandemic currently driving demand for cards to offer more than just identification, and that can also be used for financial transactions, such as cashless catering. Plus, there is more appetite now for digital identification passes that can be presented on smart phones, and these are both markets that cards-x is already at the forefront of. We’re also confident that as workplaces and venues begin to reopen, demand will increase again for cards in special formats and materials, such as VIP cards for events, to traditional ID cards.
“Over the coming months we plan to grow the team in the UK and will initially create 10 new jobs in the next 12 months in a variety of positions including technical, sales and marketing roles, which makes this an exciting time for both cards-x and the industry in the UK.”
Norman Kammerling, group CEO from cards-x added: “Germany and the UK are now two of the biggest markets for security and personalised identification products in the world due to the countries’ underlying commitment to safety, compliance and security. This makes this expansion a particularly exciting opportunity and it will significantly strengthen our foothold in the UK market.
“We’ve worked with Andy for many years and he has a superb understanding of the industry, as well as a rich list of contacts and plenty of experience, which made him the ideal candidate to spearhead this expansion and we’re delighted to welcome him onto the board of cards-x.”
